An Exciting Night of Fights Breaks the "Curse" of UFC 108.

What once was thought of as a trainwreck waiting to happen is now considered an early candidate for Event of the Year. The Ultimate Fighting Championship presented UFC 108: “Evans vs. Silva” live on Pay-Per-View yesterday, a fight card that broke the company’s records for the number of fighters injured before their scheduled fights. The UFC once again relied on its second-tier stars to make up for the lack of star power with a night of exciting fights, and the up-and-comers delivered in full.

Junior Dos Santos keeps his winning and his (T)KO streak intact with a thunderous stoppage over MMA veteran and fellow feared striker, Gilbert Yvel. Dana White said in the post-fight press conference that this win will ultimately propel Dos Santos right into the UFC Heavyweight Championship mix.

Another fighter thrown into talks of a UFC championship opportunity due to his impressive win is Paul Daley, who lived up to his nickname “Semtex” with a violent TKO win over Dustin Hazelett. When asked what’s next for him at the post-fight press conference, Daley would only say that he was in the UFC to fight and to win, regardless of opponent or championship implications.

And in the main event of UFC 108, Rashad Evans returned to his wrestling roots to outlast Thiago Silva and earn himself a Unanimous Decision win. Thiago Silva nearly finished the fight in Round 3 after successfully nailing several hard punches, but repeated takedowns by Evans left Silva too gassed to complete his attempt to knock out “Sugar”. With Silva now out of the way, all eyes are on and all signs point to the much-anticipated showdown between Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
