The UFC Goes UK Once Again as Couture Triumphantly Returns to Light Heavyweight and Dan Hardy Emerges as a Title Contender

Another UFC has come and gone, and with it came several noticeable surprises.

Fans packed inside the Manchester Evening News arena for UFC 105 “Couture vs. Vera”, and were rewarded with one of the best UK events the UFC has ever put on. A vast majority of the fights- eight out of eleven- didn’t go to a decision, and six of those fights never made it out of the second round.

One of the UK’s biggest stars, Michael Bisping, rebounded in a big way at UFC 105. After getting knocked unconscious for several long minutes after a thunderous right hand courtesy of Dan Henderson at UFC 100, many questions followed the Brit into his fight with former PRIDE middleweight Denis Kang. Kang and Bisping slugged it out for two rounds, but in the end crisp takedowns and powerful ground and pound forced a TKO stoppage with just a little over thirty seconds left in Round 2. Kang, once feared as a deadly middleweight on the warpath, has yet to find secure footing in the world’s premiere Mixed Martial Arts organization, having won only one of his three fights under the UFC banner.

Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy earned himself a number of new fans at UFC 105, as he spoiled Mike “Quick” Swick’s championship dreams. It now appears that Hardy will get the next crack at the Welterweight kingpin of the UFC, Georges St-Pierre. And in the event’s main event, Randy Couture narrowly earned himself a victory in the Light Heavyweight division after a hard-fought three-round war with Brandon “The Truth” Vera. While not as heated as last event’s debacle concerning Lyoto Machida beating Mauricio Rua, speculation has already begun to arise that Vera should have come away with the W. It remains to be seen what the future has in store for both men.
