Is Round 5 creating the Jakks problems?

Seems like the loss of Machida, GSP, Couture, and Tito may have something to do with the Round 5 UFC figures. It would at least be a reasonable explanation.

IDK, I think it MAY have been an issue, but as of right now they have a talent sharing deal. GSP, Machida, Randy & Tito(I think) all have protos floating around, I have no clue why they are sprinkled into series #3 & #4. Maybe they are holding these off to spread the A-Level talent and big names into later series.

It's def. a good question to be asking though.

Here. Quoted from Enrique on the JAKKS facebook page after 40+ angry comments:

"Hey guys, this is Enrique Ruvalcaba, Director of Marketing at JAKKS Pacific. I wanted to clarify a few things about series #2 in response to your comments. We had development challenges with this assortment. We reacted immediately and do not expect this to happen again. Every figure deleted from series #2 will be released in the upcoming months. We are committed to bringing you the best line of MMA action figures possible and promise to deliver a wide variety of top level UFC, Pride and WEC stars.

Although we cannot release many of the anticipated characters in time for series #2, we are making some updates to a few figures to help make the re-release more meaningful. Brock Lesnar will get added articulation in the shoulder joint and Rashad Evans will get new legs to improve the look of his figure. We are also working on making some deco corrections to the other figures if possible.

In addition, there were tens of thousands of collectors & fans out there that were not able to get their hands on some of the key figures from the first 2 series, so this is a good opportunity for them to join in on the collection."

That's just f***ed up. NOBODY needs repaints like 4 months later! Round 5 reSCULPTED fighters from more than year ago, that is when collectors who 'missed' figures should get afresh start. And Randy looks badass

"Lastly, I want to assure you guys that we are aggressively moving into series #3 as quickly as we can in order to get an entire set of new characters into our mix.

Rest assured that the best is yet to come. We are working on many cool figures including Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz, Wanderlei Silva, deluxe / exclusive versions of fighters like GSP with gi, as well as non-fighter characters like Dana White, referees, rings girls, and many, many more.

We appreciate your interest and continued support on the line! Best, Enrique"

Thats got nothing to do with it. Jakks and Round5 have a talent agreement. They can share talent so its all good both ways...

Sharing talent is one thing, but fighting for the same money at the same time is stupid and I doubt anyone would do it. It has to have a little something to do with it.

I don't want to come off as smug, but as someone firmly "in the know" for this situation, I can honestly say that Jakks and Round 5 have no problems with each other. Jakks is firmly mass-market, R5 is firmly collector-centric. The problem with Series 2 stems from the actual factory where the figs were made.

Thanks for clearance PdW. Hopefully we see some of those figs in series 5, 6. Like Rutten and GSP.

Just to note i found it funny in Enrique's last interview he mentioned round 5's figures as "deformed" figures.

i think to an extent they are causing problems because round5 may make jakks look bad because weve got the lineups for 6 series but i think once jakks gets moving well be spoiled with upcoming figures to look forward to

While I tend to support both Jakks and Round 5 on most parts, I think Jakks has been doing a bang-up job making themselves look bad for the Series 2 debacle. I don't think Round 5's ability to get their figs released on time will paint Jakks in any harsher of a light than they've already painted themselves with.

I'm going to continue to support this line, and as I've said multiple times in the past I'm incredibly relieved that we can put the Series 2 nightmare behind us, but I think it's going to take a lot of hard work and timely releases before the wound left from Series 2 heals up.

That said, Round 5's are technically deformed. There's this whole "more elite than you" debate on why chibi is an inaccurate way to describe the figs, but in the end, I'll just say that Enrique is technically right, although the absolute correct term is "super deformed".

I suppose if we really got into a "what's the right term" debate, we could call them "super-deformed caricatures".

But my head spins and my brain hurts if we get too much into those kinds of collector's debates.
