Thoughts on GSP VS Jake Shields

My thoughts on this main event fight in general is simple... I see GSP wiping the floor with Shields... Plain and simple.... Whether it be standing up or on the ground... I just don't see Shields taking GSP down, or keeping him down if he can... Shileds in my eyes is just a less well rounded GSP... he has AWESOME wrestling but not to GSP standards... I am not even really a huge GSP fan, I just can't see Shields bringing anything to the table that will beat GSP.... he will have a hard time getting him down, keeping him down, he won't wear him out, he won't get GSP in a bad spot, and he definitely can't stand with GSP. GSP is a SMART fighter, and I see a 3rd round submission from the Champ.

I will nearly bet my life that if gsp wins its by decision again. For some reason im not even excited for this fight. Either one is going to try and hold the other down the entire fight. Its what both do. Just going by track record here so dont bite my head off for speaking the truth or not being a gsp lover. Hopefully im proven wrong and one gets a finish (dont care who).

Not here to bite your head off but I'm tired of everyone wanting a total one sided beating that ends in 20 seconds. Do baseball fans want to see their favorite teams win 14 to 0 every game or basketball fans 98 to 4? No, of course not. GSP dominates everyone! Everyone being the last however many #1 contenders he has faced. Does he have to knock out everybody just to get all the beer bellied couch potato Tank Abbott fans interested in seeing him fight? He finished Matt hughes inside round 1 twice, made Bj penn shake his head no to a fifth round( I have the DVD and saw him shake his head no( cuz he couldn't verbally say no), so please people, don't tell me it was his corner that made the decision for him), put a horrible face mangling beating on Jon Fitch, stood up and dominated Josh Douchebag( oops, I meant Koscheck) and in the second Matt Serra fight, stop him in round 2 with KNEES; YES, KNEES! This isn't directed toward you Blingslim, just trying to ever so delicately get my point across which is; this isn't a Van Damme or Jet LI movie but an MMA fight.........

Doesnt need to be one sided to be a good fight. Ill use the daley-diaz 170 fight. Both got rocked and came back and rocked the other. When finally diaz came out on top. Fight was great start to finish regardless of who won. When gsp has won lately its generally not been exciting. Kos fight was pretty good. Anderson silva doesnt seem to have a problem making 98% of his fights exciting, lol. All im saying is 170 is the most boring division of fighters. Fitch, gsp, kos, shields,(im sure im forgetting some) so when these guys fight they generally make boring fights.. I like ground fights and all but do something please. (Chael sonnen laying on top of anderson and throwing baby punches doesnt count as doing something) When you lay on top of someone for 5 rounds and still lose it shows how terrible they really are.

I know hes the champ and doesnt wanna lose. But in the end hes still losing fans, which i know he doesnt care, hed rather have his paycheck and sponsers etc. This is a reason why i dont think gsp will fight silva. I just dont see him winning at all. Also silva shouldnt waste his time. Theres LHW that can do more for his name.

My only point is not to diss gsp but that im not expecting an exciting fight from EITHER fighter. Like i said i dont care who wins. I probably only have a few fighters at 170 i even really like. AJ, hardy, swick, saunders, diaz, penn (altho i count him as a LW)

To an extent, some fighters just use what works best for them. Why stand and trade with someone you know could knock you out when you know you could win by taking them down... Is it the most exciting way to win? Not by a long shot... as far as Sonnen and Silva, do you think Sonnen wanted to stand with one of the best strikers in the game, and risk losing becoming the champion? He used what he knows best to lay and pray. Should he have tried to finish it? Probably, but as was shown in the fight, one small mistake against someone as good on the ground as Silva could leave you at the losing end of a fight. I believe the same goes for GSP, he stood with Kos but didn't finish the fight... he brutalized Fitch and Alves.... he tried to submit Hardy but he wouldn't tap and GSP didnt want to break his arm, which i respect. I do not disagree with you though. While I see a submission victory, theres more of a chance it will go to a decision with GSP on top. I just do not see the problem in someone using there specialty as the base of their fighting.... he has proved he is outstanding in all areas but his wrestling is second to none. If GSP did fight Silva, maybe he would lay and pray.... but any fighter with half a brain would try and do this to Silva instead of stand with him. Not calling that fight because I really do not know, but GSP would have a very high chance of winning it.

Could not agree anymore with iceman71 here. It's not like GSP's fights are not entertaining or anything, and Anderson Silva? Don't get me started on him, he is so cocky and arrogant when he fights, just the very thought of how he dances around makes me sick and that Damian Maia fight really opened my eyes to who Anderson really is as a fighter. Not just that but he is a pure LHW fighter figthing a MW because it's a much easier division. Oh well let's see how long he can duck & dodge Jon Jones because we all no that's the next superfight besides GSP that we want to see!

    Lyoto "THE KARATE KID" Machida

I never said hes a bad guy for the way gsp wins. Boring is all. Fitch is boring as hell too and he has a tremendous record. Theres guys with awful records who ONLY put on fight of the nights. Trust me if every champion was like gsp Dana white would do something about it. You cant sell main events with boring fighters. Yes anderson is cocky in the ring, because he deserves to be and has earned it. If someone cant stop him with his hands down while tap dancing in front of them, it shows how much better than everyone he really is, and how afraid anyone is to actually attack him when he does so. In person hes one of the nicest ppl ever. If fighters are going to run away from anderson the entire fight then i dont see how its his fault. Silva entertains everytime he enters the cage. If its been some boring rounds its because his opponents literally back peddled away from him the entire time refusing to engage in a fight. Anyone who says his front upkick KO of belfort isnt pure genius is ignorant and probably believes in "lucky shots".

Back to the main point, im more interested in Aldo-Hominick and Couture-Machida than main anyday. (Aldo another purely deadly champion- he became the champ and still fights like hes climbing the ranks with hunger and domination, Aldo can go down as the best fighter ever.)
